Square Enix has a new trailer for Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8, which will hit PlayStation 4 in December. This ' Final Chapter Prologue' will serve as a lead-in for Kingdom Hearts 3.It's been 10 years since Square Enix released Kingdom Hearts II on the Playstation 2 in North America.
Over the last decade, the publisher has sought to appease fans clamoring for by releasing a wide variety of spinoff titles across multiple platforms. Over the last few years, Square Enix has even packaged together HD remasters of those same spinoffs, like on the PlayStation 3.Now, with Kingdom Hearts 3 still in development until at least 2017, the publisher has returned to its archive for one last collection of KH games to hold fans over. Today, Square Enix released a new trailer for Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue and confirmed the game will release in December for PlayStation 4.The trailer, which is available below, shows gameplay from as well as new scenes from Kingdom Hearts X Back Cover and Birth by Sleep 0.2 A Fragmentary Passage.HTML1Dream Drop Distance was originally a Nintendo 3DS game but it will be fully upgraded with PlayStation 4-quality graphics in order to serve as the 'main course' of this collection.
Back Cover is an hour long cinematic retelling of the browser game Kingdom Hearts X/Unchained. A Fragmentary Passage features a short but new episode that will continue the story of PlayStation Portable game, Birth by Sleep.has always been known for its confusing game titles but fans were especially thrown for a loop when Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue was. Kingdom Hearts director that he arrived at '2.8' using some creative accounting.Apparently, the 2.8 designation comes from Dream Drop Distance, Unchained, and Birth by Sleep’s place in the Kingdom Hearts timeline. Nomura believes DDD to be 2.6 within the timeline and he said Birth By Sleep is sitting at 0.2. Kingdom Hearts Unchained χ is 0.0 or at the very beginning of the timeline because of the absence of Sora. So, 2.6, plus.2, plus 0 is 2.8.Makes perfect sense, right?
Maybe not, but fans of the series should at least be happy that the final spinoff package has its release date. Gamers may also be excited to know that A Fragmentary Passage has been of sorts for KH 3.Players will take control of a character named Aqua and the experience is designed to last about as long as a visit to one Disney world in the main games. Players will have an opportunity to see what Kingdom Hearts 3 gameplay might feel like on the PlayStation 4, and the title will also apparently plant a few seeds for KH 3's story.Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologuewill release in December on PlayStation 4.Source.
Best answer: Yes and no. Only Kingdom Hearts 3 will be available in Xbox Game Pass starting on February 25, 2020. Though the rest of the series has finally launched on Xbox One, it is not coming to Xbox Game Pass any time soon.
- Hundreds of games: Xbox Game Pass ($10/month at Microsoft)
- Get all caught up: Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 ReMIX ($50 at Microsoft)
- Supplemental material: Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue ($60 at Microsoft)
Which Kingdom Hearts games are not in Xbox Game Pass?
Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 ReMIX and Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue are not in Xbox Game Pass. I know for anyone unfamiliar with the series, those names themselves don't mean much. Effectively, they're director's cuts of the original games all bundled together. Here's which games they include:
Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 ReMIX
- Kingdom Hearts 1
- Kingdom Hearts 2
- Kingdom Hearts Re: Chain of Memories
- Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days
- Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep
- Kingdom Hearts Re:coded
Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue
- Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth by Sleep – A Fragmentary Passage
- Kingdom Hearts χ Back Cover (movie)
- Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance HD
If you're looking for just the main console games in the series, you'll get those with Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 ReMIX.
Why are all Kingdom Hearts games not in Xbox Game Pass?
This is the first time in the series' history that all of Kingdom Hearts will be playable on Xbox One. As such, Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 ReMIX and Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue just launched on Xbox One on February 18, 2020. Square Enix likely wants to make as much money as possible and is selling them at normal retail prices.
Kingdom Hearts 3 has been on Xbox One for over a year, so that's probably why it was placed into Xbox Game Pass. This also gives players with Xbox Game Pass an incentive to try it out and then purchase the remaining games.
Will the rest of the series ever come to Xbox Game Pass?
It is unknown whether Square Enix ever plans to release the rest of the series into Xbox Game Pass, but it's not impossible. Either way, it likely won't be for some time since the games just launched.
Will Kingdom Hearts 3 be in Xbox Game Pass forever?
Probably not. Xbox Game Pass regularly rotates games in and out of its catalog. While some stay longer than others, it'd be wise to play Kingdom Hearts 3 as soon as possible if you're interested in it. There's no telling when it will be pulled, but it'll likely be a few months at the very least.

This bundle includes less than the other, but for some reason, it is more expensive. Why? Because Square Enix. Who knows. Regardless, this should give some more context to the narrative if you find yourself confused.
